The Business & The Problem

Based in Atlanta, Georgia, the client is an independent events management agency that hosts large-scale outdoor concerts and seasonal festivals. They struggled with their previous third-party ticket booking system, which crashed consistently during high-demand "flash sales" when thousands of fans attempted to purchase limited tickets in the first five minutes. These platform crashes led to severe customer frustration, checkout abandonment, and lost ticket revenue. In addition, the agency was charged high transaction fees on top of Stripe payment processing, eating away at their thin event margins. They required a high-performance, custom-branded ticketing platform capable of handling immense concurrent spikes while guaranteeing secure, zero-double-booking seat reservations.

Our Engineering Approach

We designed and engineered a custom, high-availability Event Ticketing Platform built with a focus on speed, data consistency, and payment security. To prevent crashes during flash sales, we separated the high-traffic ticket availability queries from the transaction processing flow. We built a memory-cached locking mechanism using Redis to lock a chosen seat for 10 minutes, allowing the user to complete checkout without the risk of double booking. We utilized Next.js statically-generated page roots with client-side hydrations to ensure the event pages loaded in under 400ms, even during peak load, offloading heavy queries from our databases. Finally, we integrated a direct Stripe checkout session flow that redirects customers back to a beautifully rendered, mobile-friendly PDF ticket download page once verified.
